Katie came up with the idea of creating Active Bloom in the Fall of 2013 when she was pregnant with her second child and doing prenatal yoga. There were no maternity activewear companies online at the time and nothing in brick and mortar stores so she realized there was a huge gap in the market that she would love to explore and come up with an affordable option.
She bought a cheap pair of leggings and adapted their waistband to create her first prototype. She chose to start focusing solely on leggings because she finds them to be the most important piece in any activewear wardrobe. Especially in California they seem to be the staple in every gal’s closet and if you’re pregnant you don’t want to sacrifice anymore of your wardrobe than you have to!
One year later, in the Fall of 2014 she decided to look into creating and selling her idea on a larger scale. She opened her shop in January of this year and started with Etsy as a sort of experiment to see if they could help her on the marketing side since she’s not very technologically savvy and has to spend quite some time taking care of her two kids it was an easy way to start selling quickly. Katie is currently working on building her own website and she’s also working on a few designs for tops and shorts to add to the current products.
Margaret Dallospedale (or Maggie) has been a fashion blogger since 2010. She started posting her looks through the website Style.it during that year and a few months later decided to start her own blog at Indiansavage.com which she called “Maggie Dallospedale Fashion Diary” to share her thoughts, ideas and inspiration on topics that she’s passionate about and to post her outfit photos.
The name of her blog “Indian Savage” comes from a nickname that Maggie’s grandmother gave her when as a child she used to open her mother’s closet and started mixing and matching the most extravagant clothes that she would find inside. Her grandmother said she had too much imagination and that she didn’t abide to any fashion rules but since Margaret studied at a private school where uniforms were mandatory it was normal that she would feel the need to develop her own specific special fashion identity which might have started back then.
Margaret writes her blog in three languages, English, Italian and Spanish because she grew up between the USA (where she was born), Italy (the country of her origins) and Venezuela (the nation that watched her grow) and because her parents always wanted that their four children would practice and use all three languages.
Recently Maggie achieved one of her dreams, to become a beauty reporter for the fashion magazine Glamour.it. This fantastic experience has given her access to a lot of information, advices and tips directly from industry experts which she now shares with all of her readers.
Besides her love for fashion she’s also a fan of technology, fitness and travelling so she also posts a lot of articles dedicated to those topics on her blog.
